In this lesson, you'll learn how to talk about health problems in French through a quick conversation.
Let's look at the dialogue.
As you listen, pay attention to how they ask about the topic and how the other person responds.
Corentin, tu n'as pas l'air d'aller bien. Qu'est-ce qui ne va pas ?
J'ai mal à la tête. J'ai aussi mal à l'estomac.
Tu es malade ?
Je ne sais pas.
Tu veux rentrer chez toi ?
Oui, je vais rentrer.
Let's break it down.
Corentin, tu n'as pas l'air d'aller bien. Qu'est-ce qui ne va pas ?
"Corentin, you don't look well. What's wrong?"
After that is the focus statement.
J'ai mal à la tête. J'ai aussi mal à l'estomac.
"I have a headache. I also have a stomachache."
First is the sentence, J'ai mal à la tête, or "I have a headache."
J'ai mal à la tête.
This starts with the subject and verb, j'ai, meaning "I have."
J'ai (enunciated). J'ai.
Next is the word mal, meaning "pain" or "ache."
Mal (enunciated). Mal.
After this is the phrase à la tête, meaning "in the head" or "in the head area."
À la tête (enunciated). À la tête.
Together, it's J'ai mal à la tête. "I have a headache." J'ai mal à la tête.
Next is the sentence, J'ai aussi mal à l'estomac., or "I also have a stomachache."
