Even for non-religious people, this is an important holiday in France.
Homes and shops are decorated beautifully to celebrate this family holiday. Many cities are famous for their Christmas markets, where you can buy decorations, regional products, and food.
On Noël, or "Christmas Day," French people greet each other by saying Joyeux Noël!

It means "Merry Christmas!"
When you meet someone on Christmas day, be sure to greet them with this phrase.

It means "turkey." It literally means "Christmas Turkey."
Christmas turkey is a traditional main dish on Christmas Eve.
Usually, French people eat turkey after church services, together with Brussel sprouts and roasted potatoes. Dessert is "Christmas log," which is a chocolate cake resembling a wooden log.
