INTRODUCTION
Eric: Hi everyone, I'm Eric.
Yasmine: And I'm Yasmine.
Eric: Using the Verb "to Sound."
Eric: In this lesson, you'll learn how to use a sentence pattern for communicating one's approval or disapproval.
PATTERN
Eric: For example, "This music sounds good."
Yasmine: Cette musique sonne bien.
Yasmine: [slow] Cette musique sonne bien.
Eric: The pattern for communicating one's approval or disapproval has 4 elements. First, the adjective "this," in this case in the singular feminine form.
Yasmine: Cette.
Eric: Second, the noun, in this case "music."
Yasmine: musique.
Eric: Third, the verb "to sound," conjugated in the third person singular.
Yasmine: sonne.
Eric: And last, the complement, in this case "good."
Yasmine: bien.
Eric: Altogether, we have "This music sounds good."
Yasmine: Cette musique sonne bien. [slow] Cette musique sonne bien. [normal] Cette musique sonne bien.
Eric: First you have the adjective "this," either in the masculine, feminine or plural form, depending on the following noun's gender. After that comes the verb "to sound" modified in gender and number according to the noun, and lastly the adjective, also modified in gender and number according to the noun.
Yasmine: Cette musique sonne bien.
Eric: So remember, to give your opinion about something, first start with the adjective "this," followed by a noun. Then we have the verb "to sound" modified in gender and number according to the subject, and finish with an adjective that describes your feelings.
Eric: Here's another example meaning, "These compliments sound sincere." First, the adjective "this" in this case in the plural masculine form.
Yasmine: Ces.
Eric: Second, the noun, in this case "compliments."
Yasmine: compliments.
Eric: Third, the verb "to sound" conjugated in third person plural.
Yasmine: sonnent.
Eric: And last, the complement, in this case "sincere."
Yasmine: sincères.
Eric: Altogether we have...
Yasmine: Ces compliments sonnent sincères. [slow] Ces compliments sonnent sincères. [normal] Ces compliments sonnent sincères.
Eric: "These compliments sound sincere."
[pause]
Yasmine: Ces compliments sonnent sincères.
Eric: How do you say - "This idea sounds wonderful!" To give you a hint, "wonderful" is...
Yasmine: merveilleux. [slow] merveilleux. [normal] merveilleux.
Eric: "This idea sounds wonderful!"
[pause]
Yasmine: Cette idée sonne merveilleuse! [slow] Cette idée sonne merveilleuse! [normal] Cette idée sonne merveilleuse!
[pause]
Yasmine: Cette idée sonne merveilleuse!

Hi Steve,

Thank you for posting.

Which three sentences are you referring to? Can you please be more specific? 😇

If they are in the Lesson Notes section, then they might not be in the main audio, because in the Lesson Notes we provide extra information about the lesson, thus there could be more examples, depending on how the episode was designed.

The Lesson Transcript should reflect what can be heard in the main audio.

Cheers,

Lena
