Sam: Hello, and welcome back to FrenchPod101.com, Lower Intermediate Series, Lesson 13. Isn't that great, guys?
Céline: Oui c’est fantastique!
Alex: Absolument!
Sam: I think so, too. I'm joined here by...

Sam: And...
Céline: Céline.
Sam: We're here to help you work on your French or help you build on what you previously learned. This conversation takes place between Rémy and his mother, Alice. They're talking about dreams. This takes place in the afternoon at their home. So, shall we start?
Céline: C'est parti!
Sylvain: Quand je serai grand,
Céline: tu iras à l’université...
Sylvain: … et je deviendrai pompier.
Céline: Tes amis et toi, vous sauverez des vies.
Sylvain: Nous travaillerons jour et nuit.
Céline: Et tu seras toujours mon fils adoré!
Sam: One more time, with the English.
Céline: Encore une fois, avec l’anglais.
Sylvain: Quand je serai grand,
Sam: When I am big,
Céline: tu iras à l’université...
Sam: you will go to university...
Sylvain: … et je deviendrai pompier.
Sam: … and I will become a firefighter.
Céline: Tes amis et toi, vous sauverez des vies.
Sam: You and your friends will save lives.
Sylvain: Nous travaillerons jour et nuit.
Sam: We will work day and night.
Céline: Et tu seras toujours mon fils adoré!
Sam: And you will always be my beloved son!
Sam: Ok!
Alex: On y va!
Sam: So did you guys have a dream when you were younger? Like to become a famous actor or prime minister or president? Something like that?
Céline: Non, pas présidente. Je voulais être actrice.
Sam: Oh, really? An actress? And you, Alex?
Alex: Moi quand j’étais petit, je voulais être cosmonaute.
Céline: Ah bon?
Alex: Oui! Mais bon je n’ai pas réussi tu vois…
Céline: Pourquoi pas astronaute?
Alex: Oui c’est pas mal aussi.
Sam: Oh, wow. An astronaut. Interesting. Actually, I thought about becoming an astronaut when I was younger.
Céline: Ah bon?
Sam: Yeah, they have Space Camp in America.
Céline: Ah oui c’est pour ça. Cosmonaute et astronaute.
Alex: Ah d’accord c’est pas la même chose.
Céline: Ah non. C’est pas le même pays. Non non c’est sûr!
Sam: Oh, ok.
Céline: Et, est-ce que tu connais Sam, le rêve américain?
Sam: Le rêve américain, the American dream?
Céline: Oui.
Sam: To be happy, wealthy, and rich if possible?
Céline: Je pense que c’est peut-être la prospérité?
Sam: Prosperity.
Céline: Qu’est-ce que tu en penses?
Alex: La prospérité d’abord? Moi j’aurais mis: amour, après peut-être famille, et la prospérité après.
Céline: Non mais alors ça c’est le rêve des français. Mais le rêve des américains c’est pas ça du tout!
Alex: Tu penses?
Céline: Ah ben bien sûr! Le rêve américain c’est la prospérité.
Sam: What do you think? Is money important? I don't think money's so important when you're talking about...
Céline: For French people, money's important, but family's maybe more important.
Alex: Et aussi l’amour je pense.
Céline: Oui bon ça, ça vient après.
Alex: Pardon?
Céline: Non mais ça vient avec tout, avec le reste, quoi!
Sam: Yeah, love is also important, but remember, you can get rich not only through money but through experiences.
Alex: Ah oui si, c’est vrai.
Céline: Qu’est-ce que c’est bien Sam!
Sam: But money's also nice.
Céline: Oui c’est vrai.
Alex: Est-ce que vous pensez que les Français sont plus romantiques que les Américains?
Sam: Are the French more romantic than Americans? I think case by case.
Céline: Ok les gars, on arrête de rêver, et on fait le vocabulaire?
Sam: Yes, let's move on to some vocabulary and phrases. The first item is?
Alex: Quand.
Sam: When.
Alex: Quand. Quand.
Sam: Next?
Céline: Grand.
Sam: Tall
Céline: Grand. Grand.
Sam: Next?
Alex: Pompier.
Sam: Firefighter.
Alex: Pompier. Pompier.
Sam: Next?
Céline: Amis.
Sam: Friends.
Céline: Amis. Amis.
Sam: Next?
Alex: Vie.
Sam: Life.
Alex: Vie. Vie.

Céline: Jour.
Sam: Day.

Céline: Adoré.

Sam: Now, let's get into the vocab and it's usage for this lesson.
Alex: Le premier mot est “quand”.
Céline: It can be used in questions to ask about time or in sentences to indicate time.
Alex: Par exemple, on peut demander: Sam, quand reviens-tu de vacances?
Sam: Demain. Mais non, je ne suis pas en vacances.
Céline: Eh non, parce que tu travailles avec nous demain. Dans une phrase, ce serait: Quand j’étais jeune, j’étais encore plus belle.
Sam: You are still beautiful, Céline.
Alex: Oui!
Céline: Oh c’est gentil!
Alex: Le mot suivant c’est: pompier.
Sam: Qu’est-ce que ça veut dire?
Céline: Un pompier, or a 'firefighter' protects people from “le feu”.
Alex: Fire.
Sam: A firefighter?
Céline: Oui. That's a sexy job in France.
Alex: Pourquoi c’est sexy?
Céline: Parce que c’est très masculin.
Alex: Est-ce qu’il y a des femmes pompier? On les appelle comment?
Céline: Une femme pompier.
Sam: Après il y a “toujours”.
Alex: L’amour pour toujours.
Sam: Ah, love forever.
Céline: “Toujours” est un adverbe de fréquence, tout comme “parfois” ou “quelquefois”.
Sam: Oh, as in frequency or habituality?
Alex: Parfois j’aime taquiner Céline. Teasing, that is.
Sam: Ah, I see. So shall we move on to some grammar?
Céline: Oui. Allez, c’est parti.

Lesson focus

Alex: So today, we're going to develop a grammar point related to the future.
Sam: My future?
Céline: No, pardon. Futur, the future tense in general, of course.
Sam: Ok. So tell me something about the future tense.
Alex: In French, it is called “le futur simple” to describe events, intentions, or anything else that will happen in the future.
Sam: Nothing new here. You're making me wait. Come on!
Céline: Attends, attends, attends. To form this tense, the steps are few and the process is quite simple.
Sam: Ok.
Alex: Take any verb at the infinitive form and add the future ending corresponding to the subject, and you'll end up with the future conjugation.
Sam: Ok. Let's try one. Let's say “réfléchir”, 'to think' or 'reflect' or 'to ponder' or 'ruminate'.
Alex: Ok. We got it. So I want to tell you that you will ruminate quite a lot tomorrow for exam.
Céline: The ending for the second person singular is -as, so add the ending to the infinitive and you have: “Tu réfléchiras demain pour ton examen”.
Sam: -as, as. Anyway, let me try. Let me try again. Tu travailleras demain.
Alex: You will work tomorrow. Exactement.
Céline: One more tip. When you have a verb ending with an -e, be sure to eliminate the letter -e before adding the verb form ending.
Sam: You were right. It really is simple, isn't it?
Alex: Actually, there are only twelve verbs which are irregular.

Hmmm When I was 16 or so, I wanted to go for "les brigades vertes.". Being a once-a-week-equestrian-club-rider and loving it, I thought I would go into mounted park rangers - (you know the security guard on horses surveying national or regional park). Unfortunately or forunately, my parents discouraged me to do so believing the job was not the best for me.

What about you?

J'étudierai des langues étrangères sur l'internet. Je choisirai quand j'étudierai et ce que j'apprendrai. Je ferai la connaissance des gens dans des pays divers.

Moi je voulais faire plusieurs métiers : chanteuse, actrice, coiffeuse.... bon j'étais très petite ! Je me suis rendue compte que j'etais très mauvaise en chant, je ne sais pas mentir et je ne suis pas très adroite avec mes mains ! :grin:

Je trouve que les examines pour ecrire n'acceptent pas les mots sans les accents. Alors, mes resultats ne sont pas bons.

I am finding that the written quizzes don't accept the words without the accents. Therefore my score is not good.

Could you please correct my French on the above?
