Do you know how to talk about health problems in French? |
Welcome to Three Step French Practice by FrenchPod101.com. In this lesson, you will practice how to talk about health problems. |
Let's look at the main dialogue. |
Two people are having a conversation. |
Corentin, tu n'as pas l'air d'aller bien. Qu'est-ce qui ne va pas ? |
"Corentin, you don't look well. What's wrong?" |
J'ai mal à la tête. J'ai aussi mal à l'estomac. |
"I have a headache. I also have a stomachache." |
In this conversation, this character |
Says that he has a headache. |
And that he has a stomachache, too. |
In French, the definite article must match the gender—masculine or feminine— and number—singular or plural—of the body part. |
For example, since tête is feminine singular, we say à la tête, and because estomac begins with a vowel, we use the form à l'estomac. |
When à is followed by the definite article la or l', it stays the same. When it is followed by the definite article le or les, it contracts into au or aux. |
These contractions are a regular part of French grammar and help the sentence flow smoothly and naturally. |
Let's practice with more body part vocabulary in this lesson. |
