Eric: This is Must-Know French Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 10. In this lesson you'll learn Expressions Using Numbers.

Eric: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:
Yasmine: un de ces quatre
Yasmine: Un de perdu, dix de retrouvés.
Yasmine: jamais deux sans trois
Yasmine: en moins de deux
Eric: Yasmine, what's our first expression?
Yasmine: un de ces quatre
Eric: literally meaning "one of these four." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "one of these days."
Yasmine: [SLOW] un de ces quatre [NORMAL] un de ces quatre

Eric: Use this slang expression when you talk about some time in the future without being precise.

Eric: Use this slang expression when you want to encourage someone who has lost someone or something important. This expression is mostly used to cheer someone up after they’ve broken up with their girlfriend or boyfriend.
Eric : Now let's hear an example sentence.
Yasmine: [NORMAL] A: J'ai rompu avec mon petit ami. B: Un de perdu, dix de retrouvés. [SLOW] A: J'ai rompu avec mon petit ami. B: Un de perdu, dix de retrouvés.
Eric: "A: I broke up with my boyfriend. B: There are other fish in the sea."

Eric: Okay, what's our next expression?
Yasmine: jamais deux sans trois
Eric: literally meaning "never two without three." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "things always come in threes."
Yasmine: [SLOW] jamais deux sans trois [NORMAL] jamais deux sans trois

Eric: Use this slang expression when you notice that something happened twice, and might occur a third time. This can be used in both a negative as well as in a positive way.

Eric: Okay, what's the last expression?
Yasmine: en moins de deux
Eric: literally meaning "in less than two." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "very quickly."
Yasmine: [SLOW] en moins de deux [NORMAL] en moins de deux

Eric: Use this slang expression when you want to emphasize that an action ended really quickly.
