Lesson Transcript

Salut, je m'appelle Ingrid. Hi everybody! I’m Ingrid.
Welcome to FrenchPod101.com’s “Le français en 3 minutes”. The fastest, easiest, and most fun way to learn French.
In the last lesson, we learned some words used when apologizing in French, including excusez-moi and je suis désolé. In this lesson we are going to learn numbers in French.
Yes, numbers! les nombres! From one to ten. And you are going to learn them in only three minutes, trois minutes!
Are you ready? Let’s start!
Un.
[slowly] un.
Deux.
[slowly] deux.
Trois.
[slowly] trois.
Quatre.
[slowly] quatre.
Cinq.
[slowly] cinq.
Six.
[slowly] six.
Sept.
[slowly] sept.
Huit.
[slowly] huit.
Neuf.
[slowly] neuf.
Dix.
[slowly] dix.
Okay, now repeat after me. I'll say the numbers and give you time to repeat each one.
1. Un
2. Deux
3. Trois
4. Quatre
5. Cinq
6. Six
7. Sept
8. Huit
9. Neuf
10. Dix
Great job!
What is before un? Do you know? It’s the same as in English but with a different pronunciation: zéro.
[slowly] zéro.
You don’t have any more excuses! You can give your friends your cell phone number in French!
Let’s try together.
We’ll use the phrase Mon numéro c'est le, which means “my number is:”
[slowly] Mon numéro c'est le.
Mon numéro c'est le,
Trois, trois, sept, un, deux, deux, quatre, neuf, six, huit.
Can you read it by yourself?
337 1224968
Perfect!
Now it’s time for Ingrid’s Insights.
When we go to the post office in France, we sometimes have to stand in line with a number. When it's your turn to check out, they scream numéro un!! Numero dix! and so on. Learn your numbers well so you can be ready!
Do you know the French word for a hundred? Here's a hint: It's very similar to a common English word! In the next lesson we are going to learn the numbers from ten to one hundred in French. Your task now is to practice the numbers we studied in this lesson, from un to dix!!
À bientôt!

Bonjour Ely et merci pour votre message.

C'est une bonne question !

A “nombre” is a cardinal number. A “numéro” is an identifier, usually made of digits.

Bon dimanche !

Hi Reaper,

Thank you for posting.

To improve your pronunciation skills, please check out our special series "Ultimate French Pronunciation Guide":

https://www.frenchpod101.com/lesson-library/ultimate-french-pronunciation-guide/

You can also use the [voice recorder] tool in the [Vocabulary] section of this current lesson to practice your pronunciation and match it to the native speaker's after listening to the audio. The audio is available in normal and slow speed so you can check it out before recording your voice.👍

PS: The voice recording tool is developed by Flash, and you need access to the site on your PC or Mac to enjoy the feature.

Hope this helps! Feel free to let us know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Cristiane
