Lesson focus

Céline: Okay, Sam. Let’s get into the lesson, shall we?
Sam: Of course, let’s do just that. What’s the setting for this conversation?
Céline: This conversation is between two people meeting for the first time.
Sam: So they’ll be introducing themselves. And where does the conversation take place?
Céline: The conversation takes place at a café.
Sam: And the conversation is between…?
Céline: A man and a woman on their first blind date, “rendez-vous” in French.
Sam: So this is a dialogue you can use whenever you meet someone for the first time. Here we’ll be using polite language as these two are meeting for the first time. Alright, let’s listen to the conversation.
DIALOGUE
Céline: Bonjour, je suis Céline. Enchantée.
Sam: Bonjour, je suis Sylvain. Enchanté Céline.
Sam:Here we’re going to go over the conversation again, but we’re going to slow it down, so that you can catch everything.
Céline: Bonjour, je suis Céline. Enchantée.
Sam: Bonjour, je suis Sylvain. Enchanté Céline.
Céline: This time we’re going to give you the conversation one more time, with the English.
Céline: Bonjour, je suis Céline. Enchantée.
Céline: Hello, I am Céline. Nice to meet you.
Sam: Bonjour, je suis Sylvain. Enchanté Céline.
Sam: Hi, I am Sylvain. Nice to meet you Céline.
POST CONVERSATION BANTER
Sam: Okay, Céline, let’s talk a little bit about the etiquette when introducing yourself.
Céline: Great suggestion. When French meet, they shake hands or they kiss.
Sam: French kiss?
Céline: Non, kiss on the cheek. One kiss, two kisses, three kisses, depends on which part of France you are from.
VOCAB AND PHRASE USAGE
Sam: Okay, well let’s take a closer look at some of the words and phrases in this lesson. what do we have first?
Céline: Bonjour.
Sam: “Hello”. Can you break it down for us?
Céline: Bonjour. Bonjour.
Sam: And this is a polite way to say hello. It works during the day and in the afternoon, whenever you say “hello” in English, you should say “Bonjour” in French, but only during the day time. How about at night?
Céline: Bonsoir.
Sam: “Good evening” or “good night”.
Céline: Bonsoir. Bonsoir.
Sam: So, Céline, what do we have next?
Céline: Je suis Céline.
Sam: “I'm Céline.” Céline, let’s break it down and start with the first part. The first part is…
Céline: Je
Sam: “I”, and immediately after there is…
Céline: suis
Sam: “am”, “to be”. So, Céline, can you introduce yourself again?
Céline: Bonjour, je suis Céline.
Sam: Great. And if our listeners wanted to introduce themselves, they can just follow this pattern and simply just replace the name. So I can say “Je suis Sam”.
Céline: Great job. Okay, now lastly we have “enchanté(e)”.
Sam: “Nice to meet you.” Can you break that down for us?
Céline: Enchanté(e). Enchanté(e).
Sam: Great, so now you can introduce yourself again and add “nice to meet you”.
Céline: “Bonjour, je suis Céline. Enchantée.” Now, remember those all the tools we were talking about?
Sam: The Line by Line Audio, Voice Recording Tool and Review Track.
Céline: Now we’re going to see why they’re so powerful. Let’s start with the Line by Line Audio.
Sam: One of our most powerful tools for improving pronunciation quickly. It gives each line of the conversation with one click of a button, so you can listen to any phrase as many times as you need to.
Céline: You can hear us again and again.
Sam: Yes, with our Line by Line feature, you have the ability to rapidly improve your listening comprehension. Listen to the native French speakers in the bite-sized sentence and phrases so you can perfect every single aspect of your French listening comprehension. Then model them.
Céline: Model them?
Sam: Yes, repeat what you hear.
Céline: So listen to us and then repeat to perfect your pronunciation.
Sam: Then, time to test your pronunciation with the Voice Recording Tool. This tool lets you record your voice right into your browser - all you need is a mic.
Céline: Even better, it’s on the same page.
Sam: Right. You can listen to the native French speakers, model them and then record your voice. Then you can compare it side by side to the native French speakers. This is the perfect way to compare your pronunciation with a native French speaker.
Céline: You can keep practicing and recording your voice, listen and record, listen and record…
Sam: That’s right. You can keep recording until you refine your pitch and intonation, build your fluency and perfect your pronunciation.
Céline: I actually had fun recording my voice the first time.
Sam: Really?
Céline: Yes.
Sam: Of course, hearing your voice for the first time is interesting. Hearing yourself speak another language is surreal, it’s pretty fun.
Céline: It’s also powerful, very powerful.
Sam: Of course, we mentioned one more tool, right?
Céline: Yes, and that is the Review Track.
Sam: The Review Track is a short one to two minute audio file with the key vocabulary and phrases from each lesson. each word or phrase is followed by a short pause, giving you time to repeat the words aloud. Practicing aloud with proper pronunciation is one of the keys to fast fluency.
Céline: With these three tools, you will be speaking the words and phrases from each lesson fast.
Sam: Of course, to get these tools and see many more, visit FrenchPod101.com to get your free lifetime account, and try the powerful tools mentioned in this lesson.
Céline: We also have another reason to visit our site.
Sam: What’s that?
Céline: Well, if you are interested in how to say your name in French, just stop by FrenchPod101.com and leave us a comment.

Also, we have a forum where you can talk about anything French and find other people who have similar interests as you do - French movies, French music, French food.
Céline: French history, art and so on.

Our forum is one of the top destinations on the internet to find and talk about what you like about France. So I guess we’ll see our listeners at FrenchPod101.com.

Sam: Now, here’s the short conversation one more time. Bye-bye.
