Becky: Here's the informal way to ask 'How much does this cost?' in French.
Yasmine: [Normal] Combien ça coûte?
Becky: First is a word meaning 'how much'
Yasmine: [Normal] combien [Slow] combien
Becky: Next is the word meaning 'this'
Yasmine: [Normal] ça [Slow] ça
Becky: Last is the word meaning 'costs'
Yasmine: [Normal] coûte [Slow] coûte
Becky: Note the rising intonation. Listen again to the informal question meaning 'How much does this cost?'
Yasmine: [Slow] Combien ça coûte? [Normal] Combien ça coûte?
Becky: Now, imagine you're speaking to a stranger. Here's the formal way to ask, 'How much does this cost?'
