Your lovely French boss has been piling so much work on your desk that sometimes you think he may be trying to bury you alive. So you decide to have some fun. However the next day you wake up disorientated after a late night partying with the girls from Moulin Rouge. You recognize your surroundings but aren’t sure what day it is. Was last night Saturday or… Sunday night? Should you hop on le métro and go to work? But what if today is Sunday? You feel like sleeping in, but it might be Monday, a work day. What to do? One of the can-can girls must have taken your calendar, your phone, and anything else with the date on it… You need to call a friend and ask, but how do you say, “what day is it?” in French? Don’t let your maniacal manager find out! Imagine how much work he will give you if you miss a work day!

But luckily for him, his French language skills are good enough so that he can ask a friendly co-worker “What day is it?” in French. You will learn how to ask about the nature of something or someone in French using the interrogative adjective, quel. For those of us from the southern hemisphere, who aren’t used to seasons in the north, we also learn to ask and say the seasons in French. Finally, find out where your French coworkers may be for seven weeks out of the year!

Children are definitely bundles of something….special. For example, I was walking my dog through a lovely French park last weekend when a French child walked right up and asked if he could pet my dog in French. Of course, I told him to go ahead. He asked me in French what my dog’s name is, to which I replied, “Sampson.” I guess this must have been some unwritten permission for the little angel to begin bombarding me with one-hundred questions in French about everything under the bloody moon! Why is his name Sampson? Why do you talk funny? Why are you so tall? Why do you have a big nose? The French questions just kept falling on me like guided missiles on an unprotected target! I pride myself on being a very patient man, but I found myself…a grown man mind you…standing in the middle of this quiet French park screaming questions back in French at this little boy! Why are you so little? Why does your mother dress you like that? Do you still drink from a bottle? Gracious! Control yourself! Just say
