Your French company is having a huge party to celebrate their twentieth anniversary of going global! At first, you hated the idea, but you have really been working hard and you could really use a little break. Besides, it will give you a chance to get to know that cute redhead in accounting. Suddenly your French boss storms through the door of your office and awakens you from your daydream about the French redhead. He tells you in French that he wants you to be his right-hand man. Great, that sounds promising! Oh, he wants you to buy the food for the party…not quite the promotion you were hoping for. He says to make sure you get plenty of what…Choucroute garnie? How do you buy something when you don’t even know what it is? Something else you need to think about is how much is plenty, or too much, or enough…and how do you say that in French? It’s not going to impress your hottie from accounting if you cannot say common amounts in French! At this rate, you won’t amount to much at all either!

Learning French with FrenchPod101.com is the most fun and effective way to learn French! In this French Lower Intermediate lesson, you will learn how to express quantities in French in a variety of different ways! You will also learn what Choucroute garnie is!

Are you vegetarian? if not what is your favorite meat? Does anyone like their steak “bleu” (literally blue, meaning almost raw - between rare and raw)?

avatar careyxxx says:

I have eaten raw beef that was marinated overnight in lemon juice in the refrigerator.

I don’t like meat very much, but I’m not a vegetarian. And I can’t stand raw or rare meat. It has to be well cooked.

Bonjour Careyxxx and Munia

Please to see you for our meeting!
Steaks go well with mustard as Mozart and his piano!
A classical for us Frenchies.
Another dish I love is Steak Tartare, a blend of raw meat, a raw egg (yes also raw it’s gerat to save time) with condiments!

Have you eaten Steak Tartare? Do you know any other dish with raw meat?

On parle de nourriture ? MMhh j’ai faim tout a coup !
Careyxx, si je peux me permettre :

Actually it wasn’t just raw, it was seared on the outside. Ce s’appelle “tataki”. It is considered a delicacy, so we only ate it once in a great while.

(Here is a brief explanation of tataki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tataki)

Est-ce que les français mangent du cheval? My American friends are absolutely horrified when I tell them about this.

Please correct my French; je suis toute débutante!

avatar sakurasaku says:

Oh, I see a mistake in my post already. “viande” is feminine, so it should have been “de la viande”, pas “du viande”.

avatar sakurasaku says:

And I meant to write “un enfant”, not “en enfant”!

avatar Angèle says:

Bonjour Sakurasaku

Félicitations d’avoir trouvé tes propres erreurs!
J’en vois une autre. Tu dirais : Ça s’appelle du “tataki”.

I love seared meat or fish! So of course I enjoy also sushi, sashimi etc…!

To answer your question horse meat is still eaten in France. It is less popular now than it used to before, but it is cheaper than other meat.
