Flash forward to the year 2050. You are living in the French quarter on ZinZid, an space station orbiting Io, one of Jupiter’s moons. You of course speak fluent French by now, with only a trace of a Martian accent. You’re having a conversation with your great-grandson, via psychic hookup, in French. “Things were simpler when I was your age,” you say. “The biggest mp3 player could hold only 120 Gigabytes, or ‘gigs’. A ‘gig’ was of course a thousandth of a terabyte, but of course no one had any idea what a terabyte was back then. We had no cerebral implants in those days either,” you go on. “so if you wanted to listen to a piece of music or a podcast you had these little loudspeakers that you had to insert into your ears.” Your great-grandson groans. “Great-grandfather, stop making things up,” he says. “Who ever heard anything as ridiculous as little loudspeakers that you put in your ears?!”

In today’s lesson our characters are having a conversation about times past. This might be useful if you want to talk about when you were young, or at some time in the future when you want to talk about how you learnt to speak French so well.
