Another way to say "fired" is "licencier" 1 - Le directeur a licencié 10 employés. (The director fired 10 employees.) 2 - Mon collégue a été licencié. (My colleague got fired.) Nice remark you have here Careyxx.
To lay off is “mettre quelqu’un au chômage technique”.
So “My co-worker got laid off” is “Mon collègue a été mis au chômage technique.”

Another way to say “fired” is “licencier”
1 - Le directeur a licencié 10 employés. (The director fired 10 employees.)
2 - Mon collégue a été licencié. (My colleague got fired.)
