I know really wanted to make a good impression with your husband’s French family. You studied your French as if your life depended on it…and I’m not sure it doesn’t! The two of you have been practicing communicating in French for weeks. You have gone through the family albums he has from when he was a boy in France at least fifty times! You recognize the members of his French family and the stories he has told you as if you lived through them yourself. The big day finally arrives and you fly to France. The French village they live in is even more beautiful than he could have described. The family rushes out to greet you; all of them speaking in the French language you have been practicing. That’s okay though, you realize you understand enough French to communicate with them. What he did not prepare you for was the fact that his pictures were very old and his family from France has changed a LOT! Panicked, you tell Uncle Alfred how nice it is finally to meet him in French. As everyone grows quiet, you realize the horrible mistake you have just made. Aunt Marie releases you from the hug, introduces herself, and walks quietly away. Why is your husband so bad with introductions?
